Volunteer Opportunities

depositphotos 5319481 stock photo curling stonesIt may not be curling season but there's always something going on at the club.

With the proposed changes to the Board, the day-to-day running of the curling club will move to committees. Being a part of one of these committees will be a great way to cover your volunteer hours. To be clear, these are NOT Board positions and all of these positions need to be filled for the Curling Club to operate. A Board member will mentor each group and provide guidance as required.

We still have openings in the following areas:

Health & Safety (three members) –  updated Concussion protocol, monitoring the First Aid kit (restocking as needed), following up with Incidents,  making sure we are aligned with WHMIS protocols (mainly for cleaning products or any products Ice makers might use), kitchen cleanliness protocol, creating  documented procedures on how to handle an infectious outbreak (such as we experienced with Covid), formulate a checklist for an annual review of the club to make sure all areas are in a safe condition.

Publicity & Communications (two members) – submit curling articles to local media; notify local media and other local curling clubs of special events and bonspiels; inform the membership of out-of-club bonspiels; possibly someone to take care of the website

Rentals (three members) – book rentals of ice surface, lounge and/or kitchen before, during and after the curling season; maintain rental/ice time calendar; ensure contracts are signed and payments including “damage deposits” are received; perform pre & post rental inspection; coordinate with Ice Maker, Caretaker and Bar Manager; prepare and submit a monthly Rental Report to the Board

Housing & Building (four members) – oversee all routine and emergency maintenance of the building, grounds and equipment; works in conjunction with the club Caretaker; participates in research and cost estimates of capital improvements; schedules and assists in the installation of capital improvements upon approval of the Board.
